The School of Architecture at the Romanian-American University is built on a unique partnership between two complementary institutions: RAU, with institutional strength validated by the highest ARACIS rating, and NewSchool of Architecture & Design in San Diego, internationally accredited by WSCUC and NAAB, with over four decades of experience and a graduate employment rate exceeding 91% in the field.

Programul de masterat “Gestiunea și Auditul Afacerilor” a fost acreditat în anul 2015 de către Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (A.C.C.A.).

Începând cu anul universitar 2014-2015, Facultatea organizează și un program de studii universitare de masterat în domeniul Finanțe, cu predare în limba engleză, „Finance”,  program de tip Dual Degree realizat în parteneriat cu Universitatea din Siena, Italia.

Departamentul de Comerț, Integrare Economică și Administrarea Afacerilor contribuie la derularea activității didactice și de cercetare științifică la nivelul fiecărui program de studii aferent domeniilor Economie și afaceri și Administrarea afacerilor în turism. 

La nivelul departamentului, se coordonează activitățile personalului didactic și de cercetare în concordantă cu planul managerial, se contribuie la elaborarea și implementarea planurilor de învățământ, se elaborează statele de funcții în colaborarea cu Consiliul Departamentului, în conformitate cu prevederile legale.

Activitățile Departamentului de Finanțe, Credit, Contabilitate se circumscriu direcțiilor strategice  ale  universității cuprinse în cadrul planului strategic de dezvoltare instituțională, precum și celor  ale facultății. 

Obiectivul departamentului este de consolidare a poziției și de creștere a prestigiului prin intermediul cadrelor didactice, programelor de studii gestionate și studenților / masteranzilor săi atât în cadrul activităților didactice, cât și celor de cercetare științifică.

La nivelul departamentului se organizează comisii consultative constituite din membri, angajatori precum și specialiști în domeniu în vederea compatibilizării conținutului planurilor de învățământ și a disciplinelor aferente acestora cu cerințele pieței muncii. Modernizarea procesului de transmitere a informațiilor prin digitalizarea activităților didactice precum și creșterea componentei participative și stimulative a actului didactic prin introducerea cursurilor interactive reprezintă o prioritate a departamentului Finanțe, Credit, Contabilitate.

Questions and Answers

The Architecture program, taught in English, is organized by Romanian-American University through the School of Architecture.

The program has a duration of six years, is offered as a full-time integrated bachelor’s and master’s program, and comprises 360 ECTS transferable credits.

Following the external evaluation conducted in March 2026, the ARACIS Council granted the program the status of provisional authorization to operate, with a maximum admission capacity of 60 first-year students. Therefore, the program is officially authorized to operate. However, as a newly established program, it has not yet obtained accredited status.

Romanian-American University is a higher education institution, a private legal entity serving the public interest, and part of Romania’s national higher education system. It was founded in 1991 and accredited by law in 2002. Additional information about the University’s history and institutional status is available on the University’s website.

The authorization of the Architecture program (taught in English) was approved by ARACIS Council Decision No. 120/H/02.04.2026, which is available online for consultation.

The program has been designed as a six-year integrated program comprising 360 ECTS credits, in accordance with the structure of higher education studies for the regulated profession of architect and the academic requirements applicable to the field of Architecture.

However, the automatic professional recognition of the degree in other European Union Member States does not result solely from the number of ECTS credits or from the program’s authorization in Romania. In accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC, the automatic recognition of an architect’s qualification requires compliance with the minimum training requirements established by the Directive and the appropriate inclusion or notification of the qualification within the applicable European recognition framework.

In addition, the qualification awarded through this program has been registered by the National Qualifications Authority (ANC) in the National Register of Qualifications in Higher Education (RNCIS), confirming the official national recognition of the competencies acquired. However, this registration does not replace the specific European procedures governing automatic professional recognition.

In Romania, the right of signature is not obtained automatically upon graduation from a higher education program. It is granted exclusively by the Romanian Order of Architects, in accordance with Law No. 184/2001 on the organization and practice of the architectural profession and with the regulations issued by the Romanian Order of Architects.

In principle, a graduate of a study program leading to a degree and an official professional qualification as an architect, issued in accordance with the applicable national and European legislation and with the qualification registered by the National Qualifications Authority in the National Register of Qualifications in Higher Education, may apply for registration with the Romanian Order of Architects as a trainee architect, subject to the conditions established by the Order.

The graduate must subsequently complete the professional traineeship and the assessment procedure organized by the Romanian Order of Architects in order to obtain the right of signature. Meeting the legal requirements gives the graduate the right to submit an application for registration, while the decision on the application rests with the Romanian Order of Architects.

At present, the professional traineeship generally has a minimum duration of two years and is completed under the supervision of an architect who holds the right of signature. The Romanian Order of Architects grants the right of signature following an assessment of the applicant’s knowledge, skills, and professional experience.

The University may confirm the structure and academic status of the program and, throughout the six years of study, will undertake all institutional steps within its area of responsibility to support the students’ academic training and professional development. The decision regarding registration with the Romanian Order of Architects and the granting of the right of signature belongs exclusively to the Romanian Order of Architects, in accordance with the legislation applicable at the time of graduation.

The program is new and will welcome its first cohort of students beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year. Consequently, Romanian-American University does not yet have graduates of this program who have obtained the right of signature in Romania or in another Member State of the European Union.

Although the program does not yet have graduates, Romanian-American University benefits from 35 years of institutional experience and from a community of more than 50,000 graduates working in a wide range of fields in Romania and abroad.

The external evaluation of the program was carried out by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS).

The external evaluation report, validated on April 2, 2026, confirms the following:

  • Program duration: six years
  • Mode of study: full-time
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Number of credits: 360 ECTS
  • Program status: provisional authorization to operate
  • Maximum admission capacity: 60 first-year students

ARACIS is the national authority responsible for the external quality assurance of higher education in Romania. The Agency is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is listed in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). It is also actively involved in European cooperation and projects in the field of quality assurance.

The program curriculum is organized according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System and comprises 360 ECTS credits, in accordance with national legislation and the specific standards applicable to Architecture programs. The ECTS system facilitates the comparison of academic results and the recognition of study periods or successfully completed courses.

However, the recognition of credits by another university is not automatic. As part of the external evaluation process, ARACIS also assesses the compatibility of the curriculum with relevant national and international programs, as well as the alignment of the learning outcomes with the qualification level.

The decision regarding credit recognition rests with the receiving institution, following a comparison of the curricula, course descriptions, learning outcomes, number of credits, and hours of academic instruction.

A student may apply for permanent academic mobility to another higher education institution in Romania, in accordance with Higher Education Law No. 199/2023 and the applicable institutional regulations. The authorization of the program following the ARACIS evaluation and its inclusion in the legal act establishing the structure of study programs for the 2026–2027 academic year provide the legal framework required for the program to operate. However, the approval of the academic mobility remains the responsibility of the receiving institution.

The approval of the transfer and the recognition of credits fall under the exclusive authority of the receiving university and depend, among other factors, on:

  • the availability of places;
  • the academic status of the programs involved;
  • the compatibility of the curricula;
  • the courses completed and credits earned;
  • any examinations or academic differences established by the receiving institution;
  • the regulations applicable at the time of the application.

Within its other study programs, Romanian-American University has experience in managing national and international academic mobility, in accordance with the applicable regulations and the institutional agreements in force.

Romanian-American University has an extensive network of academic and international mobility agreements and participates in the Erasmus+ program.

For the Architecture program, the University has an academic partnership with NewSchool of Architecture & Design in San Diego, California. This partnership offers eligible students the optional opportunity to follow an international academic pathway and, subject to the conditions established in the agreement between the two institutions, the possibility of obtaining a dual degree. The international pathway may involve three years of study in Bucharest, two years in San Diego, and a return to Bucharest for the final year.

Academic partnerships and Erasmus+ mobility opportunities may facilitate periods of study abroad and the recognition of academic results, but they are not equivalent to an agreement guaranteeing a permanent transfer to a specific university in Romania.

Romanian-American University manages both incoming and outgoing international mobility programs and has been developing international academic partnerships since 2005. The University therefore has substantial institutional experience in organizing and recognizing periods of study completed abroad.

The program is designed as a complete six-year higher education pathway, structured as an integrated bachelor’s and master’s program and aligned with the academic training required in the field of Architecture.

However, at this time, the University cannot provide an unconditional guarantee that graduates will obtain the right of signature in the future. The University does, however, provide the academic component of the training through a high-quality educational experience focused on developing the competencies and achieving the learning outcomes established for the architect qualification.

The quality of the educational process and the successful completion of the entire program create the necessary academic foundation for graduates to subsequently access the procedures for obtaining the right of signature, without the University replacing the competent professional authorities.

The actual granting of this right will depend on:

  • compliance with the national and European requirements applicable at the time of graduation;
  • completion of the professional traineeship;
  • successful completion of the procedure organized by the Romanian Order of Architects for granting the right of signature.

Applications are submitted through Romanian-American University’s online admission platform. For the integrated bachelor’s and master’s Architecture program taught in English, the admission process and the program itself will be organized after the adoption and publication of the Government Decision updating the framework of fields of study, specializations/study programs, and the structure of higher education institutions for the 2026–2027 academic year, in order to include the authorized program.

Admission to the Architecture program includes an aptitude assessment designed to evaluate candidates’ abilities in freehand drawing, observation, spatial perception, proportion, composition, and graphic representation.

The aptitude assessment consists of two stages:

  1. online submission of a portfolio of original work;
  2. participation in an interview based on the submitted portfolio.

The portfolio must include the following three sections:

Section 1 – General Knowledge and Architectural Heritage
The candidate must produce a drawing representing a landmark building, a historical or heritage site, a monument, or another landmark of cultural and architectural significance.

Section 2 – Spatial Representation and Volumetric Composition
The candidate must produce drawings of their choice representing objects, buildings, or abstract compositions that demonstrate the ability to understand and represent space, volumes, and compositions made up of geometric forms. The representation may include plans, elevations, sections, and/or axonometric drawings.

Section 3 – Observational Drawing
The candidate must include works created through direct observation, freely selected and considered relevant for demonstrating their observational ability, graphic representation skills, and artistic individuality.

Each section must be presented on a separate A3 page. All works must be combined into a single PDF document with a maximum file size of 10 MB, and the included images must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

The portfolio will be reviewed and assessed by a specialist committee, which will consider the quality of the graphic representation, the ability to express ideas visually, the understanding of space, the sense of proportion and composition, and the coherence of the creative approach.

In addition to the portfolio assessment, the candidate will participate in an interview lasting approximately 15 minutes. During the interview, the candidate will present their motivation for choosing the study program and explain the conceptual, compositional, and graphic choices reflected in the works included in the portfolio.

The grade awarded for the aptitude assessment is final and cannot be appealed.

The final admission average is calculated as a weighted average of two components: 50% of the final Baccalaureate examination average and 50% of the grade obtained in the aptitude assessment.

Teaching activities will begin on September 28, 2026, in accordance with the structure of the 2026–2027 academic year.

Important Information

  • Pre-registration for the Architecture and Early Childhood Education bachelor’s programs requires candidates to create an online account on the admitere.rau.ro platform and complete steps 1–5. Please consult the relevant Guide for further details.
  • During the pre-registration stage, candidates are not required to submit their application documents online and no application fee is payable.
  • Following the publication of the Government Decision, candidates will continue the online application process on the admitere.rau.ro platform by completing steps 6–8 and finalizing their application through step 9, inclusive.

For the Architecture program, the fees for the 2026–2027 academic year are as follows:

Application fee: EUR 150 for Romanian candidates and citizens of European Union Member States;

EUR 250 for candidates from non-EU countries;

EUR 5,900 per year for enrollments completed by September 9, 2026;

EUR 6,400 per year for enrollments completed between September 10 and September 15, 2026;

EUR 9,000 per year for enrollments completed between September 16 and September 25, 2026.
