The Romanian-American University hosts the “Gaudeamus Cup” for Women’s U16 Beach Volleyball, a stage of the National Championship
The Romanian-American University hosts the “Gaudeamus Cup” women’s U16 beach volleyball competition, organized by Diamond Beach Club Sports between July 4-5 at the university’s RAU SPORT CENTER Sports Base located on Șos. Străulești 4-6, District 1, Bucharest.
This competition constitutes an official stage of the National Championship of Romania, bringing together 19 valuable teams from all over the country at the start. Admission is free for all spectators, and the matches will take place on both days between 09:00 and 18:00.
On July 4, a special event dedicated to promoting beach tennis will take place before the start of the volleyball matches.
The competition highlights the potential of the university’s sports infrastructure and the importance of integrating Olympic sand disciplines among young athletes and the local community.
The project is developed based on the strategic partnership between the Romanian-American University and Diamond Beach Club Sports (DBCS), a sports club that aims to create a complex of internationally interconnected, high-performance training bases. The initiative benefits from the expertise of the university’s School of Physical Education, Sport and Kinesiotherapy with the long-term objective of building the highest-performance base in Romania, equipped with covered sand courts at international standards.
The collaboration between the Romanian-American University and Diamond Beach Club Sports brings direct benefits to the university’s sports base in the north of Bucharest, with access to Lake Străulești. In addition to the already functional facilities – football, tennis, and basketball courts –, new beach volleyball courts and recreational areas open to the public for activities such as paddleboarding, table tennis, and beach soccer are being developed in this space.
From an academic perspective, the project brings important innovations by introducing beach volleyball as a subject of study, organizing courses for coaches and referees, and forming a breeding ground for future Olympic teams.
