School of Tourism and Hospitality Management

The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management prepares specialists for one of the most dynamic and people-centered industries in the world. It is a field where your work has immediate impact—through the experiences you create for others, from enjoyable flights and memorable vacations to flawlessly organized events.

A career in tourism, hospitality, or aviation means working closely with people and transforming their free time into meaningful experiences. It is one of the few fields where no two days are the same, constantly challenging your creativity, empathy, and ability to handle unexpected situations. It is also a field that can take you far—both literally and professionally. You may work in international hotel chains, on cruise ships, in airlines, or in agencies offering experiences in destinations you may currently only dream of.

At the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at RAU, you are treated as a future professional, not just a student. Education goes beyond lectures and exams—it provides the context to practice, learn from mistakes, and make decisions in real-world situations. Students regularly engage with business partners, alumni working in the industry, and professionals from Romania and abroad.

Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships and mobility programs across Europe, the United States, Latin America, and Asia, to pursue internships in hotels, travel agencies, airports, or airlines, and to take advantage of opportunities to work on events, special projects, and seasonal schools.

By enrolling in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, students benefit from:

  • Merit-based scholarships funded by RAU for the top 20% of students—clear recognition that performance is acknowledged and rewarded;
  • Fast-track programs with major employers in aviation, tour operations, and international hotel chains—offering priority interviews, company mentors, potential HORECA scholarships, and even employment opportunities during studies;
  • Mentorship from active industry professionals through partnerships such as the Women in Transport and Tourism Association—providing guidance from hotel managers, agency managers, tourism consultants, and entrepreneurs;
  • Live projects with well-known brands—working on real campaigns for hotels, resorts, destinations, and airlines, with strong results potentially implemented in practice;
  • International internships in hotels in Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Japan, and South Korea, supported by Erasmus+, including accommodation, meals, and in some cases financial compensation;
  • A multicultural learning environment with international students and courses delivered by guest lecturers actively working in the global industry;
  • Access to international tourism fairs, industry conferences, and professional events, sometimes as volunteers or staff;
  • Structured training in leadership, public speaking, customer experience design, and intercultural competencies;
  • Opportunities to become a RAU Ambassador—creating promotional content, participating in education fairs, and representing the school to prospective students;
  • Opportunities to represent peers in RAU governance structures and actively contribute to shaping the student experience.

Starting with my first year as a student I had the great surprise of coming across a highly enjoyable environment. I was also eager to learn about the tourism industry, which made me decide to pursue the same path for my Master’s degree, as well. The best choice I made was not to limit my activity and simply participate in classes. Besides, my professors encouraged me to make a good use of my time to explore the numerous opportunities that RAU had to offer. As I wanted to expand beyond my comfort zone, I decided to volunteer within RAU Students’ Club (CS-URA) and the largest student union in the country. This environment gave me a variety of challenges that I had never met before and helped me develop and constantly excel myself. […]

The Romanian-American University was my best choice with regard to bachelor and master studies. First of all, RAU elite teachers and those of its partner universities from abroad offered me the opportunity to develop a set ok knowledge extremely useful in my professional life, and not only. Secondly, because of the continuous support offered by the university with regard to my personal and professional development, I had the chance to be an Erasmus+ student in Japan and be able to work in one of the biggest corporations in the world. The Romanian-American University was and is a second home for me. The five years I spent here as a student, first in the bachelor’s degree program of the School of Domestic and International Tourism Economics, and later in the master’s degree program in International Affairs within the School of Domestic and International Business, Banking and Finance, represented a huge advancement in the career I have built since then. Studying the Japanese language and the art of origami since I was little, the Romanian-Japanese Studies Center “Angela Hondru”, within RAU, proved to be the ideal place for me. In addition to working with prestigious artists and improving my Japanese language skills, I had many opportunities such as an internship program at the Laguna Garden Hotel in Okinawa and an Erasmus+ scholarship at Ritsumeikan University in Osaka. […] To me specifically the student life at RAU helped me develop both personally and professionally. Romanian-American University provided me the opportunity to go to the United States of America by means of Work&Travel program, to become familiar with another country’s culture and people’s perceptions and the opportunity to interact with the people there. The RAU professors know how to keep their students close to them and to provide assistance so that they can solve the problems they run across. Romanian-American University has offered courses with foreign professors that I have also attended. This is a great experience from the university. Participating in these classes one can learn new things and also be awarded a diploma that fills your heart with joy. […]

To me, Romanian-American University has been exactly like a family who helped me in my professional and personal development. […] I am proud to be a part of the first generation of students who benefitted from studies without being required to pay fees. […] I am extremely happy that I have experienced this with RAU, and that our tutors have proven their passion and commitment to us, their students, who have become friends for a lifetime. Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without a highly dedicated and engaging team behind this process, a team that I am thankful to. […] During the 1st semester in the second year as a Master’s student, I was able to receive an Erasmus+ grant, an experience that I highly recommend to everyone! I went to Chambery (France) at the ”Savoy Mont Blanc” University and I studied Hotel Management. It was great to be in an international environment and to be in contact with students from all over the world. But for this experience from RAU, I wouldn’t have been able to adjust so well. […]

BACHELOR programs

”Economia comerțului, turismului și serviciilor” (Trade, Tourism and Services Economics) – 3 years, full‑time, taught in Romanian

”Trade, Tourism and Services Economics”3 years, taught in English (full time)

This programme helps you understand how a modern business really works behind the scenes of a hotel or travel agency. You learn the language of economics and business through courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Financial Accounting, Finance, General Management, so that you can read the numbers and decisions behind any project.

As you progress, you dive deeper into tourism, hospitality and services through courses like Managerial Economics in Tourism, Economics and Innovation in Services, and Geopolitics and the Global Economy in Tourism. You start to understand how international events, crises or new alliances can suddenly change travel flows and company strategies, and you learn to discuss with employers not only prices and packages, but also the global context behind them.

On top of this, the programme opens the door to niche disciplines that help you find your own “corner” of the industry. You’ll explore courses on event tourism, experiential tourism and city‑breaks, guest experience management, product and package design, as well as gastronomy and culinary arts – from gourmet experiences to wine and food tourism. All of them are designed so that you can experiment with how to build offers that put destinations on the map and learn to work with details: from smart itineraries to “wow” moments for guests who have seen everything.

The English‑taught version of the programme is endorsed by Christian Tour, the largest tour operator in Romania, and selected students can even obtain a study scholarship offered directly by our partner. It is built for students who want an international career and to study in a multicultural environment in Bucharest, a European capital city. You follow a similar structure, improved by the industry view, and all teaching, projects and interactions are in English, preparing you directly for global roles in tourism, hospitality and services.

MASTER programs

Business Administration in Tourism – 2 years, full‑time, taught in Romanian

This master’s is designed for you if you want to move from “working in tourism” to “managing a tourism business”. It opens doors towards hotels and restaurants, catering companies, traditional or online travel agencies, ecotourism, rural and agritourism, health and wellness, transport companies or conference and event centres – basically the entire ecosystem where decisions are made, not just executed.

Business Management in Tourism and Aviation – 2 years, full‑time, taught in English

  • Study Guide – Download
  • Curriculum – Download
  • Syllabuses – Download

This programme is for those who want to understand how tourism and aviation connect and who feel at home in an international environment. You work with real case studies from airlines and tourism companies, you develop both management and analytical skills, and you learn how to “speak the language” of airlines, airports and major tourism players – all in a modern university in the heart of a European capital.

As a bachelor’s or master’s student at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, you can also take courses at the RAU IATA Training Center and obtain internationally recognised certificates issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Created in 2011, it is currently the only IATA‑certified centre in Romania for courses such as Foundation in Travel and Tourism, Travel and Tourism Consultant and Managing the Travel Business. You also work on real projects with partners like Romanian Airport Services (RAS), Animawings, Air France‑KLM, Turkish Airlines, Amadeus or Travelport – which means direct contact with the industry, not just theory.

For students enrolled in Business Management in Tourism and Aviation, the added value is even clearer: you can obtain two internationally recognised IATA certificates and micro‑credentials that are useful if you want to continue towards a flight school (Private Pilot Licence – PPL). You build a profile that combines tourism and aviation management with a solid understanding of airline operations, safety and business – a clear advantage both for flying schools and for other roles in the aviation ecosystem.
