Debate on the reforms needed in Romania held at the Romanian-American University
At the invitation of the Murray Rothbard Center for Political Economy and Business within the Romanian-American University, a roundtable discussion dedicated to debating the nature and necessity of reforms in Romania took place on Thursday, May 28. The event brought together experts from academia, entrepreneurship, finance, and public policy in a practical dialogue on the challenges and prospects of the country’s economic and institutional development.
The meeting was initiated by Bogdan Glăvan, Ph.D. Professor, Director of the Murray Rothbard Center for Political Economy and Business, who opened the discussions by presenting the Romanian edition of The Milei Era, a volume authored by German professor Philipp Bagus, a collaborator of Argentine President Javier Milei and a long-standing partner of both the Center and the Romanian-American University.
Drawing on Argentina’s recent experience and relevant examples from other countries, participants analyzed the conditions necessary for implementing genuine and sustainable reforms in Romania. The debate highlighted both the importance of the economic context and the essential role of cultural and educational factors in promoting ideas and policies that support economic progress.
The following participants actively contributed to the discussion:

Throughout the discussions, participants emphasized the need to clearly define the objectives of reforms before translating them into legislation or government decisions. It was also highlighted that only through a long-term vision can measures be designed and implemented in a way that generates lasting effects.
The debate also included critical perspectives on certain current economic policies, which were viewed as creating distortions in the business environment and discouraging investment. Participants drew attention to fiscal and budgetary practices that contribute to the accumulation of economic imbalances, as well as to the lack of consistency in the decision-making process, factors that may affect both the pace and direction of Romania’s development.
The event was part of a broader series of academic initiatives through which the Romanian-American University and the Murray Rothbard Center for Political Economy and Business aim to foster dialogue between academia, the business community, and civil society, contributing to the identification of relevant solutions for Romania’s economic and institutional development.
