15 years of cooperation between Romanian-American University and Cape Peninsula University of Technology
Costel Negricea, Ph.D. Habil. Professor – Rector of the Romanian-American University, and Tudor Edu, Ph.D. Habil. Professor – Vice-President of the Romanian-American University, were invited by the Chancellor of Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Prof. Brian Figaji, Vice-Chancellor of Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Prof. Chris Nhlapo, and Deputy-Vice-Chancellor of Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Prof. Marshall Sheldon, to visit Cape Peninsula University of Technology to celebrate 15 years of cooperation.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology matriculates over 30000 students in all its programs, being the largest university in Western Cape and one of the largest in the Republic of South Africa. The two universities see this long-standing partnership as a benchmark in international cooperation, considering the extraordinary achievements in student and staff exchanges, research and publications, doctoral and master thesis examination and exchange of good practices.
During the visit in Cape Town, the Romanian delegation had numerous meetings with the leadership of the institution as well as with the heads of a number of departments desiring to develop the existing partnership and/or exploring new avenues of collaboration. Moreover, the Romanian delegation had the honour to be invited at the graduation celebration which took place on April 9th.

Costel Negricea, Ph.D. Habil. Professor – Rector of the Romanian-American University, and Tudor Edu, Ph.D. Habil. Professor – Vice-President of the Romanian-American University, had meetings with the management of University of Cape Town and with doctors and head nurse from the Department of Surgery, Groote Schuur Hospital, a hospital functioning within the university.
University of Cape Town is the best university in Africa, being ranked no. 150 in the world and no. 75 in the field of Medical Science and Health. Groote Schuur Hospital is famous for a number of worldwide scientific achievements, one of them being the first heart transplant. The discussions were centered on double degree programmes, as well as on the newly authorised programme in Medical Sciences by RAU.
