Romanian-American University celebrated the Opening of the 2026–2027 Academic Year: emotion, enthusiasm, and new beginnings
Emotion, enthusiasm, reunions, and plenty of positive energy – this is how the 2026–2027 academic year began at Romanian-American University, with the Official Opening Ceremony held on September 28, 2026, bringing together an impressive number of students, freshmen, parents, faculty members, alumni, representatives of the diplomatic community, international academic partners, and guests from the business community and various sectors of society.
As Romanian-American University celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, we came together to welcome a new academic year, looking back with gratitude on everything we have built and looking ahead with confidence to all that lies before us.
The ceremony was opened by Costel Negricea, Ph.D. Habil. Professor, Rector of Romanian-American University, who began with a thought-provoking question about what truly stays with us when the world around us changes: education, the ability to think, make sound judgments, and find solutions.
The Rector’s remarks were complemented by addresses from representatives of the University’s academic leadership: Dumitru Miron, Ph.D. Professor, President of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture, and Mihai Olariu, Ph.D. Associate Professor, President of the Senate of Romanian-American University.
The international character of Romanian-American University was also reflected in the presence of numerous distinguished guests, representatives of the diplomatic community, and institutional partners.
Messages were delivered to the academic community by H.E. Takashi Katae, Ambassador of Japan to Romania, H.E. Hur Seung-chul, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania, H.E. Carlos Alejandro Poffo, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Romania, H.E. Adrian Zuckerman, former U.S. Ambassador to Romania, Emily Zeeberg, Press Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Romania, and Emeritus Ștefan Buchiu, Ph.D. Rev. Prof., Honorary Diocesan Vicar.
The ceremony’s international dimension was further highlighted by messages from the University’s academic partners: Makoto Kosaka (University of Hyogo, Japan), Chris Nhlapo (Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa), Andrew Johnson (Northwood University, USA), Daniela Deutsche (NewSchool of Architecture & Design, San Diego, USA), and Filipe Carrera, international professor and speaker.
Representing the University’s students and alumni, as well as the business community and various sectors of society, Valeriia Horobei, Adrian Safta, Marius Moldovan, and Florin Pețu also shared inspiring messages to mark the beginning of the new academic year.
The event was enriched by special artistic performances from the CELESTA Vocal and Instrumental Ensemble, made up of students from the “Nicolae Grigorescu” National College in Câmpina, under the guidance of Elisabeta Milea. Through their talent and artistic sensitivity, the young performers brought an extra touch of emotion to the ceremony, offering memorable musical moments warmly received with applause.

The excitement and joy of the new academic year continued in the days that followed. In keeping with University’s tradition, the Romanian-American University’s schools welcomed their students and freshmen through their own Opening Ceremonies, held on September 29 and 30, 2026.
These gatherings offered further opportunities to meet and reconnect, become familiar with the academic environment, and, especially for first-year students, take their first steps into the communities of their chosen schools.
