Intercultural dialogue and global opportunities: the Romanian-American University hosted the Regional Hindi Conference
The Romanian-American University continues to develop its international dimension by hosting and organizing, together with the Embassy of India in Romania, the first landmark event in our country for cultural diplomacy: the Regional Hindi Conference. The event reconfirmed our institution’s openness to strategic partnerships that facilitate intercultural dialogue.
This conference marked a significant moment in the cooperation between the two states, highlighting the University’s role as an active platform for the exchange of ideas and cultural values.
The University’s Rector, promoter of diplomatic dialogue
This type of event is part of the mission of the Romanian-American University, which aims to combine knowledge, human values, and dialogue, supporting people to develop, think freely and creatively, and understand the complexity of the world in multicultural contexts with a global outlook. The Rector, Costel Negricea, Ph.D., was involved in facilitating this dialogue and delivered a speech during the conference, demonstrating that the academic environment can play an essential role in public diplomacy:
“For the Romanian-American University, hosting and organizing this event, in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of India, represents both an honor and a natural continuity of the shared journey begun in recent years. In 2022, we launched the Romanian-Indian Studies Center at the Romanian-American University – a space dedicated to academic cooperation and cultural exchange. That year, the Embassy of India supported us with a generous book donation for the center. In 2023, this partnership became even stronger through the donation of an impressive collection of Hindi books that are now available in Romania, traditional costumes, and decorative cultural elements, which are now part of our Center’s identity. These contributions are tangible actions that support education, cultural dialogue, and ensure the long-term presence of Hindi study in Romania.
Beyond the institutional framework, our partnership comes to life, day by day, through the students from India who are an integral part of our academic community. Their presence on campus offers us an authentic cultural dimension and reminds us that this cooperation is not limited to agreements, but is based on people and shared aspirations. I am glad to see international professionals gathered here. When members of academic communities dialogue across borders about education, language, culture and the future, they exchange ideas while simultaneously strengthening the deep ties between communities and, ultimately, between our nations.“
Promoting Indian culture in the Romanian academic space
The Regional Hindi Conference brought together, scholars, academics and experts from 21 countries, such as India, Romania, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Armenia, offering a conducive framework for debate and analysis, in the presence of His Excellency, Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Romania. The debate focused on themes such as Hindi as a unifying cultural force, contemporary linguistic challenges, innovative approaches to teaching Hindi, the intersection between Hindi and artificial intelligence, as well as professional cooperation between India and Romania.
Our institution understands the importance of diversity and in-depth knowledge of the traditions of the countries with which it collaborates. Through this initiative, the university supports the Hindi studies and actively contributes to a better understanding of the Indian cultural context, an essential aspect in an interconnected world.
Educational opportunities for students from India
This partnership, consolidated through diplomatic events, has direct and concrete benefits for international students. The Romanian-American University remains an attractive destination for young Indian students wishing to study in the European Union, offering a modern academic environment adapted to current standards.
International students find here:
- Study programs in English: Particularly bachelor programs in the fields of Computer Science for Economics and International Business, highly sought-after specializations that offer them the necessary skills for the labor market. The Foundation Year available at the Romanian-American University is also an important step towards reaching their academic potential in their desired fields of study.
- Integration into a diverse community: The university offers an inclusive study climate, where international students benefit from support for adaptation and cultural integration.
