Official Launch of the Department of Latin-American Studies at the Romanian-American University
On June 11, 2025, the Romanian-American University marked an important milestone in its internationalization strategy with the official launch of the Department of Latin-American Studies (DSLA), within the Center for American Studies, the first center of its kind in Romania.
The event brought together an impressive delegation of all diplomatic representatives present in Romania from Latin America – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Peru, Mexico and Uruguay – highlighting the strong support of diplomatic missions for strengthening educational and cultural partnerships between Romania and Latin America.
The official opening was headed by Mr. Costel Negricea, Rector of the Romanian-American University, and Mr. Tudor Edu, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Innovation, and Internationalisation. They were joined by official representatives from the Government of Romania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, and the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The newly established Department of Latin-American Studies will play a strategic role in expanding the university’s international presence and in facilitating cooperation with academic, research, and cultural institutions in the Latin American region. DSLA’s activities will include:
- Developing bilateral academic partnerships,
- Organizing conferences, workshops, and training programs with international experts,
- Promoting student and faculty exchanges,
- Initiating joint research and intercultural education projects.
The launch of DSLA marks a concrete outreach toward a region with tremendous potential for academic collaboration, opening new international opportunities for RAU’s students and faculty.
This event reaffirms the Romanian-American University’s commitment to being an active, dynamic, and forward-thinking international educational hub.
